Fayetteville’s Arkansas Air & Military Museum, located at Drake Field, is housed in a piece of history, itself.
The massive, all-wood, white hangar the museum is housed in is listed on the Arkansas Registry of Historic Places. It was built during World War II, which explains why wood was used in its construction rather than steel or aluminum. The site served as the headquarters for a military aviation training post and is one of the few such buildings surviving from the 1940s.
