What do the host of “America’s Funniest Home Videos,†Alfonso Ribeiro, and pro wrestler Ric Flair have in common?
They’ll both be at the 2017 World’s Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Hot Springs! Alfonso Ribeiro is this year’s Celebrity Grand Marshal and Ric Flair will be the Official Starter.
The World’s Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade has been held in Hot Springs since 2003. The 98-foot long parade is held on Bridge Street, the “shortest street in the world in everyday use,” according to Ripley’s Believe It or Not. While the whole use of “shortest” for the street or the parade is debatable, that’s hardly the point.
So what is the point? Fun – and lots of it!
The World’s Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade now attracts around 30,000 people from across the U.S. each year. All ready to enjoy a wild, wacky, and wonderful Saint Patty’s Day!
As this year’s Grand Marshall and Official Starter demonstrate, even celebrities get in the act! Past celebrities at the parade have included Kevin Bacon, Bo Derek, John Corbett, Jim Belushi, Tim Matheson, George Wendt, and Mario Lopez.
Also in the parade this year are the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, Irish Elvis’s, Irish wolfhounds, belly dancers, and the Express Black Clydesdales. This imposing team of gorgeous draft horses marches in many high-profile parades, including Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
A free concert takes place after the parade, headlined by Uncle Kracker. Many other venues around town will have their own events or attractions to coincide with the parade.
The official measuring of the parade route takes place at 6:25 pm and the parade starts at 6:30 pm. The free Uncle Kracker concert is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
So go ahead – come on out to Hot Springs, AR for the World’s Shortest St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Everybody is Irish in Hot Springs on March 17th!
